Anita’s Animals
Where The Lost Are Always Home

Anita's Animals is located in the small Mexican town of San Juan Cosala. Located at the west end and on the north shore of Lake Chapala, it’s a relatively small sized “no kill” rescue sanctuary for cats and dogs.

Anita’s philosophy is that all cats and dogs deserve good care and love, while they await a new “forever home.”

By US and Canadian standards it would not be considered a fancy place. It offers basic food and health necessities, as well as a refuge for those who have been rescued from the streets and other harmful situations. These rescued cats and dogs remain in the care of Anita, until a new loving home has been found.

The population at the shelter varies from week to week. During kitten and puppy season we can be completely full, but will never turn away any animal in need.

For the most part there are usually 25 to 40 kittens and cats, while puppies and dogs can number from 25 to 45 at any given time.

Anita is a firm believer of cat and dog population control through spaying and neutering. Anita will never turn away a pregnant cat or dog, thereby allowing the rescued mother to have her babies in a place that is safe for mother and off-spring.

When the time is right Anita will have the mother animal spayed. This is an important step in helping to avoid the over-population problem of animals in Mexico.

If you live in the San Miguel de Allende area please check out this wonderful organization. They work with Anita to help find home for Mexican dogs.
